A történet világa úgynevezett Ark-okra oszlik. Minden Ark-nak megvan a maga védőszelleme, egyfajta lelke, a lakóknak pedig különféle mágikus képességeik vannak. Főszereplőnk, Ophelia egy Animáról származó, halk szavú, introvertált lány, akit a világ másik végére igyekeznek férjhez adni, akaratán kívül, egy olyan valakihez, akivel még csak nem is találkozott eddig. Ophelia élete a Pole nevű Ark-on nem kifejezetten zökkenőmentes. A kötet nagy részét egy némaságra kárhoztatott inas álruhájában tölti a saját biztonsága érdekében. Mindeközben megismeri új otthona ármányokkal teli világát. Barátságokat köt és valami instabil bizalom is kialakul közte és a vőlegénye között. Addig, amíg rá nem jön arra, miért is kényszerül valójában erre a házasságra.
Amilyen vontatottan indul a történet, egy ponton túl egyszerűen azt vettem észre, hogy se kép, se hang. Minden idegszálammal a történet alakulására, és a karakterek közti interakciókra fókuszáltam. Egyszerűen magába szívott a történet. Észrevétlenül. Nagyon megszerettem. Nem is kifejezetten a fordulatossága, vagy az intrikái miatt. Az írásmód, a fordítás és a karakterek vettek le igazán a lábamról. Már belekezdtem a folytatásba is, és az is pompás élmény eddig.
Fantasy és steampunk rajongóknak kifejezetten ajánlom ezt a könyvet. A mágia kedvelői és a remekbe szabott karakterfejlődés csodálói nem fognak ebben a történetben csalódni. A csoda nyelvezet pedig csak hab a tortán!

This book was recommended to me. By a person who previously had recommended some really good books to me. So I've learned to pay attention about what she says about stories I should definitely read. I'm not gonna lie. This experience at first gave me insane disappointment. I couldn't imagine the world where the story unfurled, I couldn't place myself there among those characters. I just felt confused by the whole worldbuilding and the set of characters. So let me tell you about them.
The world of the story contains places called Arks. Every Ark has its own family spirit. And the inhabitants posess various kinds of magical abilities. Our protagonist, Ophelia is from an Ark, called Anima. She is an introverted girl, who speaks really softly. Well, her family arranged a marriage to her at the other end of the world, on an Ark called the Pole. With someone who she has not even seen before. Needless to say she doesn't really want that marriage, but she doesn't really have a choice either. Ophelia's life on the Pole isn't really smooth. Most of the story she is disgused as mute valet, for her own safety. During her time on the Pole she figures out the system of her new home and the intrigues between the families. She makes some really good friends too, and somehow she starts to trust her own fiancé as well. Until she realises why this marriage was really arranged.
As I said the beginning of the story was definitely not for me, but I kept going and after a certain point, I realised I couldn't put the book down. I was so focused on the story and the interactions between the characters, I stopped hearing the outside world around me. The story pulled me in. Without notice. And I started to love it. Not necessarily the actions or the intrigue. But the way of writing the quality of the translation and the masterful character development. I've already started the second book and that's a great read so far as well.
I warmly recommend this book to everyone who loves a good fantasy and/or the steampunk genre. If you love magic or great character development usually sweep you off of your feet, this book is for you. The English translation is a cherry on top of the cake!

5/5 - It was a hard introduction, but as hard as it was, this book is one of the best of the year.
