Fannie Flagg: The Wonder Boy of Whistle Stop

Mikor megtudtam, hogy a tavalyi év olvasmányának, a Sült zöld paradicsomnak folytatása van, nem volt kérdés, hogy azonnal kell. Kíváncsi voltam, hogy ennyi idő után képes lesz-e az írónő visszahelyezkedni a saját történetébe, és meg tudja-e formálni ugyanolyannak a karaktereit, mint amilyenek a legendássá vált első kötetben voltak. Nem csalódtam. 

A könyv középpontjában Idgie és Ruth fia, Buddy és az őt követő generáció van. Természetesen, az első kötetben megszokott különleges időkezelésnek köszönhetően vissza-visszatekintünk a múltba, és egy ponton ez a múlt és a könyv jelene nagyon szépen össze is ér. 

A karakterek pedig pontosan ugyanazok a szerethető karakterek voltak, akiket megismerhettünk már. Bevallom, jó érzés volt egyből az első rész újraolvasása után a világban, ezek között a szereplők között, ebben a remek írásmódban maradni. Nosztalgikus, keserédes visszatérés volt a gyerekkorba. Pont azt a megmagyarázhatatlan bájt hozta magával, mint az első kötet. Remélem, egyzer majd ezt is kiadják magyarul. Az eredeti könyv kedvelői biztosan ezt is szívesen elolvasnák.

Összességében nekem ez a két kötet megismételhetetlen olvasmányélmény volt, ami biztos nem most került le utoljára a polcról.

When someone let me know that my favourite book of last year actually has a sequel, I instantly knew I need said book. I was curious to know if the author could set herself back in her story after such a long time, and if she could form her characters the exact same way, she had done in the first book. I didn't have to feel disappointed. 

In the focus of the story there is Idgie's and Ruth's son, Buddy and the generations after him. His daughter and his grandchildren. Naturally, thanks to the unique time setting which we could also experience in the first book, we looked back to the past from time to time. And at a certain point the past and the present of the story reached a shared point beautifully. 

The charactesrs are just as loveable as they were in the prequel. To tell you the truth it felt good, to stay in this world, with these characters with such a unique and beautiful way of writing right after the reread of the first part of the duology. It was a nostalgic, bittersweet feeling, returning to the childhood. It was just as unexplainably beautiful as the first book had been. I hope this book will also get a Hungarian translation somewhere in the future. Those who loved and enjoyed book one, probably would like to read this one too. 

All in all, this experience was something will be hard to repeat for me. I certainly will take these books from the shelf again and again in the future.
