A történet két főszereplője Natasha és Daniel. Natasha családja bevándorlóként engedély nélkül tartózkodik az Egyesült Államokban és az apa hibájából kitoloncolás vár rájuk. Daniel családja is bevándorló. A koreai szülök a magukénál jobb jövőt remélnek a gyermekeiknek, így gyakorlatilag a két testvér, a szülők által kijelölt utat járja ahelyett, hogy a saját életét élné, a saját álmait igyekezne megvalósítani.
A két szereplő találkozása, és viharos szerelme sorsszerű. Valami olyan, amit nekem nagyon nehéz, ha nem lehetetlen elhinni. És mivel ezen a szálon van a hangsúly, valahogy az egész el is ment a fejem felett. Sokkal jobban tetszett volna, ha az életszerűtlen, kapkodóan gyors tempójú szerelmi szál helyett a bevándorlás témaköre, a bevándorló családok élete, nehézségei és örömei kerülnek a középpontba.
Ennek ellenére a könyv olvastatja magát. Köszönhetően a rövid fejezeteknek és a váltott nézőpontnak. Szerencsére nem caak a két főszereplő, hanem minden a történet alakulásában résztvevő karakter kap legalább egy rövid fejezetet.
Összességében bevallom, én nem estem hasra ettől a könyvtől. Egynek elment, de sokkal jobban meg lehetett volna írni, ha nem a szerelmi szálra fókuszálunk kényszeresen. Viszont, ha valakinek éppen ez a zsánere, hogy egy komoly témát rózsaszín ködbe borít az örökké tartó szerelem első látásra és nem idegenkedik a nyitott végű történetektől (ami szerintem ebben az esetben kivételesen jó húzás volt), akkor ez a könyv tökéletes választás.

I have been thinking about what I should write about this book for days now. It's kind of hard to write a review about it, because it clearly was not for me. It did not leave any imprint in me, it was about nothing for me, to be honest. I mean don't get me wrong. The potential was there, but the focus of this sory was very much not where it should have been in my opinion.
The two protagonists of this story is Natasha and Daniel. Natasha and her whole family are illegal immigrants in the US. And since the father was arrested their secret is out in the open, so they need to leave the States immediately. Daniel and his family are also immigrants. The Korean parents are determined to make their children's lives better than theirs had been. So Daniel and his brother practically live the way their parents tell them to. Instead of living their own lives and make their own dreams come true instead of the so called American Dream.
The meeting of our two protagonist and the instant love between them feel like destiny. Something that is very hard for me to believe in. And since the main focus is on their way too rushed love, the whole plotline just went over my head. I would have liked it much better if the focus had been on the lives of the immigrant families. Their hardhips and happy times, and immigration itself as a whole very complicated and controversial topic.
Despite all of this, the book is surprisingly easy to read. Thanks to the short chapters and the alternated point of views. Thankfully not only the two protagonists are on the focus but everyone gets at least one short chapter who has any kind of role in the story.
All in all what I want to say is that I have read much better books than this. It would have been so much better with a more sharp focus on the more problematic side of the story. This instalove trope was kind of unbelivable. That said if you actually like these tropes where the real problems are misted with the pink haze of love and first sight now and forever and you don't mind open endings, this book is exactly what you are looking for.
