Christelle Dabos: The Missing of Clairdelune (The Mirror Visitor Quartet 2.)

Nem is emlékszem, mikor olvastam utoljára ennyire hullámzó tendenciájú könyvet. Voltak fejezetek, amik a székem szélére ültettek, és alig vártam, hogy megtudjam, mi fog történni a következő oldalon. Aztán voltak olyanok, amiken alig-alig sikerült átverekednem magam, mert rendre elaudtam a történetszálon, annyira untatott. Ebből pedig következik, hogy helyenként nem értettem, hogy mi miért történik.

Ophelia az előző kötet végén ráébredt kényszerházasságának valódi okára. Ezt próbálja meg a történet elején feldolgozni, miközben immár a saját alakjában megismerkedik új otthona valójában velejéig korrupt világával. Az önazonosság azonban áldozatokkal jár. Miközben Ophelia a Pole családi szellemének, Farouk-nak a védelmét igyekszik kiérdemelni maga és a szerettei számára, levélben halálos fenyegetéseket kap egy ismeretlentől, aki Isten akaratára hivatkozik. Mint kiderül, nem ő az egyetlen. A Clairdelune befolyással bíró lakóinak egymás után vész nyoma. Ophelia tehát nyomozni kezd. 

A történet szövevényes. Néha talán túlságosan is. Annyira, hogy helyenként elveszni látszik a lényeg. Olykor kifejezetten túlírtnak érzödik. Olyan, mintha a szerző túl sok mindent próbált volna elmondani egyszerre. Ettől helyenként túl tömény és túl követhetetlen a történet. Egyszerűen sok, na. Az utolsó néhány fejezetre azonban magára talál és arra ösztönzi az olvasót, hogy nagyjából egy nagy levegővétellel olvassa el a hátralévő lapokat, meghozva ezzel a kedvet a folytatáshoz is.

Azonban én a magam részéről, azt hiszem, egy időre parkolópályára teszem a sorozatot, helyet adva más történeteknek. De nem felejtem el. Ha egy kicsit leülepszenek bennem az olvasottak, és megtalálják a maguk helyét, vissza fogok térni ebbe a világba, ezekhez a karakterekhez, mert az útjuk még nem ért véget, és szeretném őket odáig elkísérni.

5/4 - Bevallom, messze nem ütött akkorát, mint az első kötet és Thorn történetszála jó nagy blokkot tett a végére. Viszont szeretem annyira ezeket a karaktereket, hogy kíváncsi legyek arra, hogy mi minden történik még velük a történet további részeiben. 

I don't remember when was the last time I read a book such all over the place. There were chapters which made me sit at the edge of my seat. When I hardly could wait to see what was gonna happen on the next page. And then there were those ones where I hardly could reach the end I was so bored by the storyline. Thanks to this, there were places I did not understand why a certain event was happening the way it was happening. 

At the end of the previous book Ophelia realized the real reason of her arranged marriage. That's something she tries to cope with at the beginning of this story. Meanwhile now in her own skin, she realizes how corrupt really is the sytem of her new home. Being one's self expects sacrifices though. Meanwhile Ophelia tries to earn security for herself and her loved ones from the Pole's family spirit, Lord Farouk, she gets death treats via post by a nameless someone. And this someone talks about the will of a certain God. Who wants to see her as far from the Pole as possible. And Ophelia is not the only one. The important inhabitants of Clairdelune keep vanishing. One by one. And so, Ophelia starts to investigate.

The story is a complicated one. Too complicated for its own good. At some places it seems this makes the gist of the story disappear. It's just way too overwritten at times. It's like the author wanted to tell us too many things at once. This makes the story stuffy and hard to follow. Okay, I will say it. Sometimes it is too much, okay? But thankfully it finds its balance for the last couple of chapters, and makes the reader taking a deep breath and finish the story in one sitting. And of course it suggest to start the next book as soon as possible.

Although I for one will put this series aside for a bit, and give place to other stories. But I won't forget this. I just need time to put all these events and characters to their own place on the shelf. After that I will be back in this story with these characters. Because their paths have not reached their and. And I want to be their companion until then.

5/4 - It was not as good as the first book. But I love these characters enough, and I wish to know what awaits them on their way.
