Az "Ahol a folyami rákok énekelnek" talán nagyobb hatással volt rám, mint magam is gondoltam volna. Mialatt azt  olvastam, sokat gondoltam erre a könyvre, és, hogy ideje lenne újra olvasni. Levettem a polcról, beleolvasgattam, és annyira magával ragadott, hogy úgy döntöttem, ez lesz az ehavi klasszikus olvasmányom. 

A történet szerint Pi Patel egy kicsit furcsa fiú. Már csak azért is, mert egyszerre három vallás nagy buzgalmú hívője. Plusz egy állatkert az otthona, ami szintén nem kifejezetten szokványos. Az állatkert egy idő után veszteségessé válik, így a tulajdonosok (Pi szülei) úgy döntenek, eladják az állatállományt, és hajóra szállnak Kanada felé. Csakhogy a hajó elsüllyed a Csendes-óceán kellős közepén. Az egyetlen túlélő a fiú, akinek így megkezdődik több, mint 7 hónapos kálváriája egy mentőcsónakban, egy kifejlett bengáli tigris társaságában.

A könyv borítója egy csodálatos utazást ígér. És mindennek ellenére ez tényleg az. Nagyon sok minden bújik meg ebben a történetben. Ezek közül is a két legfontosabb dolog a főszereplő hite és bátorsága. Valamint a leleményessége. Azt sem lehet kihagyni a számításból. Tulajdonképpen ezt a történetet nem a túlélés mibenlétéről olvasottak teszik annyira csodálatossá. Hanem a főszereplőnk gondolataiban érzelmeiben, cselekedeteinek mozgatórugóját képező alapokban tett utazás. 

Hangulatában a regény egy bizonyos fajta magányt sugároz. Magányt, mert hiszen Pi egyedüli emberi lény a mentőcsónakban, akinek az életben maradásért kell küzdenie minden nap, minden órában, a családja nélkül, akiket rövid idő leforgása alatt vesztett el. Mégis különleges magány ez, hiszen nincs egyedül. Ott van vele Richard Parker, a tigris, akinek az életben tartásáért ugyanannyira felelős, mint magáért. Azt hiszem, ennek a történetnek ez a csodája. A két hajótörött utazó nem maradhatott volna életben egymás nélkül. 

Furcsa. Akaratlanul is úgy beszélek arről a történetről, mintha tényleg megtörtént volna. Ez pedig az író zsenialitását dicséri. Ő volt képes úgy megírni ezt a könyvet, mintha az egész história valóban megtörtént volna. 

Véleményem szerint egy olyan történet ez, amit érdemes megismerni. Főleg azoknak, akik szeretik az olyan meséket, amik a lélek dolgait boncolgatják nem mindennapi körülmények között. Nekem ez az újra felfedezett élmény meghozta a kedvem a szerző többi művéhez.

5/5 - Tényleg csodálatos utazás volt

It looks like "Where the Crawdads Sing" has had a greater effect on me then I could even imagine. While reading that book I was thinking a lot about this one and how great it would be to reread it. I took it from my shelf, flipped through it and it grabbed me so much I decided this would be my classic read of the month.

According to the story Pi Patel is a bit strange of a boy. Mostly because he is an extremely religious person. So much so that he accepts and exercises three different kinds of religion at once. Plus, his home is a zoo which I would not call ordinary either. After a certain period of time the zoo starts to fail. So the owners (Pi's parents) decides to sell the animals and they board a ship towards Canada. Unfortunately the ship sinks in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. The only survivor is our boy. Thus his 7 months long journey starts in a lifeboat with a tiger as his only company. 

The cover of the Hungarian edition promises a wonderful journey. And despite everything it was exactly that. The story has many meaningful aspects. Most importantly the protagonist's faith and courage. And his skills. That deserves to be mentioned as well. To be honest this story is wonderful but not because Pi survived the adventure. Not because his set of skills, not because the adventure itself. The miracle lies in Pi's thoughts, feelings, in the base of the motivations of the way he acted throughout the whole jouney. 

About the novel's mood... It radiates a very specific kind of loneliness. It's lonely because Pi is the only human being in the lifeboat. And he needs to fight for staying alive, in every hour, every minute even. Without his family, since he lost them very suddenly. And yet it is a very specific loneliness since he is not alone. He has Richard Parker, the tiger. And he is responsible for keeping him alive. I think neither of the survivors could have stayed alive without the other. This is the real miracle of the story. 

Strange isn't it? I talk about this story like it really happened. This is because the genius way the author created this story. He actually made me believe all of this had really happened somewhere, sometime. 

In my honest opinion many people should know this story. It's worth it. I recommend it especially to those who like to dive into the depth of the himan soul. Under extraordinary circumstances. This rediscovered experience made me want to read the other works of the author.
