Soman Chainani: A World Without Princes (The School for Good and Evil 2.)

Ki gondolná, hogy egy gyenge pillanatban elkövetett, szívből jövő kívánság milyen bonyodalmakat okoz? A történet szerint a két barátnő Sophie és Agatha boldogan élik mindennapjaikat Gavaldonban, miután a Storian odakanyarította a bűvös "Vége" szót tündérmeséjük utolsó lapjára. De valóban így van? Hiába az erősnek hitt barátság, kettejük élete mégsem teljes. Egyikük rég elvesztett édesanyja után, míg másikuk hátrahagyott hercege után vágyakozik. 

Kettejük kívánsága újra megnyitja a kaput a mesék birodalmába és a lányok újra a Jók és Rosszak Iskolájában találják magukat. Csakhogy ez nem ugyanaz az iskola, amit annak idején maguk mögött hagytak. Meséjük befejezése felkavarta ezt a varázsvilágot, így Jók és Rosszak helyett most Fiúk és Lányok állnak egymással szemben egy kitörni készülő háború küszöbén.

Az alapfelvetés elsőre jól hangzik. Milyen lenne a mesevilág, ha nem lenne szükség hercegekre. Valami azonban nagyon hamar félre siklik itt. Nem azt mondom, hogy foggal-körömmel ragaszkodnunk kell a klasszikus szerepekhez. Távolról sem. Teljesen rendben van, ha egy hercegnőnek nincs szüksége hercegre ahhoz, hogy boldogan éljen. De itt nagyon drasztikusan a feje tetejére áll minden. Valójában az az egyensúly borul fel majdnem helyrehozhatatlanul, ami az egész megteremtett világ alapja kellene, hogy legyen. Ennek pedig beláthatatlan következményei lesznek. 

Vannak buktatói a történetnek, ez kétségtelen. Kifejezetten bosszantó, hogy a karakterek a saját hibáikból nem képesek tanulni. Nem képesek elfogadni, hogy vágyaik eléréséhez a saját szerepüket kell elfogadniuk a mesében. Utána pedig szükséges lenne finomhangolni a viselkedésüket. Ennek ellenére ez az egész továbbra is egy jól megírt, eseménydús és elképesztő fantáziával kivitelezett történet. Szeretem olvasni, bár vannak karakterek, akik még mindig kifejezetten hiányoznak a palettáról...

Ha valaki szeretne olvasni egy olyan történetet, ami képes teljesen más megvilágításba helyezni a mesevilág klasszikus értelmezését, akkor ez a könyv neki való. Ha tetszettek a sorozat eddigi kötetei, akkor ez is mindenképpen megérdemli a maga esélyét.

5/5 - Nem változtatok az évekkel ezelőtt adott értéken, pláne nem lefele. De vannak dolgok, amik az eltelt időben más értelmet nyertek.

Who would have thought what troubles one innocent wish coming from the bottom of one's heart could create? According to the story the two friends Sophie and Agatha are living their Happily Ever After back in Gavaldon after the Storian wrote the magical "The End" at the end of their fairy tale. But is that the truth? No matter the strong friendship when none of their lives are happy. One of them wishes for her long lost mother, the other one for her prince who stayed in the Woods. 

Their wishes reopens the gates leading to the world of fairy tales. And the girls find themselves again in the School for Good and Evil. But it's not the same school they had left behind. The end of their fairy tale moved the balance so instead of Good and Evil, Boys and Girls stand against each other in a brink of a war. 

The story seems good at first glance. What whould the fairy tale world look like without princes? But something goes haywire here very quickly. I won't say we should stick to the classic roles no matter what. Gosh no. I'm here for a princess who is perfectly happy without a prince trust me. But the case is very drastic here. Everything turned upside down. The previous books pressed that the balance is the most important thing in this world. Now this balance seems almost entierly ruined. And it has serious consequences. 

There are some questionable twists and turns in this story, that's for sure. It's pretty frustrating that the characters can't learn from their own faults. They can't accept that they have to make peace with their own roles in their fairy tale and then they should fine tune their own behaviour. Despite everything this book is still extremely well-written, action packed story, written with exceptional imagination. I love reading it but I still miss some certain characters from the stage...

If you would like to read a story which place the classic fairiy tale world in a totally different focus, this is your book. If you liked the series so far this book also deserves a chance.
