Alice Oseman: This Winter & Nick and Charlie

Nem viccelek, ha azt mondom, ma azzal a gondolattal ébredtem, hogy Alice könyveit szeretném olvasni a hónap indításaként. Le is vettem a polcról a Heartstopper ötödik kötetét, bele is lapoztam, aztán tértem rá a novellákra. Eleve azt terveztem, hogy egyszerre értékelem ezt a két rövid szösszenetet, úgyhogy vágjunk is bele gyorsan a közepébe.

This winter

Ezt a novellát már olvastam egyszer, amikor megvettem, de attól még ugyanolyan keserédes és szívmelengető volt egyszerre. A történet a Heartstopper 4. kötetének idejében játszódik, mikor Charlie éppen a felépülés folyamatának kellős közepén jár. A családja pedig ebben igyekszik támogatni, csak nem mindig a legjobb eszközökkel. Ebben az esetben is Nick-nél és a családjánál keres mendedéket, még a szeretet ünnepén is. Imádtam azt a támogató légkört, amit ott megkapott. Imádtam, hogy Nick mellette van a gondban, úgy is, hogy azt is tudtára adja, ha a viselkedésében valami kifogásolható. Imádtam, hogy ott van Tori, hogy utána ment, és ők ketten képesek voltak átbeszélni a dolgaikat. Imádtam, ahogy a karakterek egymással kommunikálnak ebben a történetben. Pont ezért volt kevésbé kellemes meglepetés a másik novella.

Nick and Charlie

Nem csak a This Winter-ben, hanem az egész Heartstopper sorozatban csodálatra méltó, ahogy a karakterek az érzelmeiket kommunikálják. Ebben a novellában viszont épp ez megy a süllyesztőbe egy jó darabig. Nick egyetemre készül, Charlie pedig fél, hogy mi lesz vele/velük, ha távkapcsolatra kényszerülnek. Teljesen okés és érthető érzések. Az viszont nrm okés, hogy az érzéseit Charlie nem kommunikálja Nick felé. A korábban elválaszthatatlan páros nagyon közel sodródik valami visszavonhatatlanhoz. Szerencsére a végén mindkét fél észhez tér, kinyitják a szájukat, és rendbe teszik a dolgaikat, hiszen szeretik egymást. Ez a kis hullámvölgy pedig erősebbé tette őket, mint valaha. Imádom, ahogy Alice még a leglehetetlenebb szituációban is meg tudta nekünk mutatni a pozitívumot. Mert valójában az ilyen hullámvölgyek valahol szükségesek is. 

Jól esett olvasni ezeket a szösszeneteket, főleg, hogy nem tudom, a sorozat 3. évadát hogy fogom megnézni. Hiányzik az életemből ez a fajta pozitivitás. Alig várom a podcast-ot, meg amúgy az egész promó időszakot. Jó lesz visszatérni kicsit ebbe a világba.

🍂 Nick and Charlie: 5/4 - Fiúk, hát mi történt az eddig olyan jól működő kommunikációval?!

I kid you all not, this morning I woke up with the thought that I wanted to read Alice's books as a start of one of my most stressfull months. I picked Heartstopper Vol 5 from my shelf, read a couple of panels then switched to the short stories. 

I originally planned to write a joined review about both of the books so here goes nothing. Let's see what we got here.

This Winter

I have already read this short story right after I purchased it last year. It still was bittersweet and heartwarming at the same time. The story happens during Heartstopper volume 4 while Charlie is in the middle of his road of recovery. Which is not an easy process. Luckily his family tries to help him most of the time even if not with the right mindset all the time. He finds his safe haven this time as well with Nick and his family even during Christmas. I loved the supportive atmosphere he experienced there. I loved the way Nick was right beside him while he was upset, even though he told him when his behaviour towards his sister had not been acceptable. I loved the way Tori was just there, that she went after him, and both of them could sort their problems out. I loved how the characters communicated with each other in this story. And that's exactly why the other one was not a pleasant surprise. 

Nick and Charlie

The way these characters communicate with one another is nothing sort of wonderful not just in This Winter but in the whole Heartstopper universe. In this short story this is exactly what almost went down the sink completely. According to the story Nick is buzzing out of his skin with excitement, because he is about to go to university. Meanwhile Charlie is afraid of what would happen to him/them when they will find themselves in a long distance relationship. These are entierly acceptable and understandable feelings and doubts. Which is not acceptable is that Charlie doesn't communicate his feelings towards Nick. The used to be inseparable couple almost pushed themselves to the brink of something irreversible. Thankfully around the end of the story, both of them came to their minds, opened their mouths and sorted their problems out. They are Nick and Charlie after all, they love each other. And this little mishap made them stronger then ever before. I loved how Alice could show the positive side of this kind of story as well. Because come to think of it, these mishaps are somewhat necessary once in a while. 

It felt good to read these stories, especially because I don't know how and when I will be able to watch S3 of the series. I miss this kind of positivity from my life. I can't wait to listen to the podcast/watch the YouTube vids and in general the whole promo season. It will be good to be back in this universe.
