R. F. Kuang: The Dragon Republic (The Poppy War 2.)

Sajnos azt kell mondanom, Kuang továbbra sem ír jól. Legalábbis nem úgy, hogy abba én el tudnék rendesen merülni. Nagyrészt inkább frusztrált és idegesített a történet. Konkrétan szerintem inkább toxikus ez a könyv, mint bármi más. Komolyan azt kell propagálni az olvasóközönségnek, hogy droggal oldjuk meg a problémáinkat, és, hogy gondolkodás nélkül csináljuk azt, amit mások mondanak, mert akkor nekünk nem kell szembe néznünk az érzéseinkkel és a tetteink következményeivel? Komolyan ez az a magatartás, amit példaként kell az olvasók elé állítani? Mert szerintem ez nagyon káros dolog. És az a baj, hogy az egész nem viszi sehová a történetet sem. Nincs ennek az egész könyvnek valójában semmi értelme, semmi mozgató rugója sem. 

A karakterekkel pont ugyanez a helyzet. Nincs céljuk, nem motiváltak, csak sodródnak az eseményekkel. Önálló gondolatok híján pedig fejlődni sem tudnak. Ami pedig nagyon frusztráló még, hogy az írónő az értékelhető karaktereitől rendre megszabadul. A maradék karaktergárda pedig vagy felesleges, vagy rettentő idegesítő. 

Utóbbi sajnos a főszereplőnkre vonatkozik leginkább. Rin nem más, mint egy egoista, hisztis liba, aki nagyobbnak gondolja magát az életnél. Mindig mástól várja a megoldást, megsértődik, ha valaki nem teszi azt a lába elé ezüst tálcán, miközben ő például a kisujját képtelen megmozdítani, annak érdekében, hogy újra az erejének birtokába kerüljön. Nem tehetek róla, de nagyon utálom szerencsétlen lányt.

Őszintén számomra Nezha az egyetlen értékelhető karakter (meg talán Kitay, de ő is rossz emberre pazarolja az idejét), és belőle is sikerült a könyv végén egy oltári seggfejet csinálni. 

Most már végig fogom olvasni a sorozatot, hogy megtudjam, mi lesz vele, de őszinte leszek. Senkinek nem ajánlom ezt a sorozatot. Egyre inkább időpocsékolásnak tűnik. Annyi más jó írás van, ami jobban megérné a ráfordított időt.

5/4 - Jobb volt, mint az előző rész, de határozottan állítom, hogy továbbra sincs jól megírva a sorozat

I'm sorry to say that Kuang still doesn't know how to write a fantasy properly. I for one can't lose myself in her stories. Mostly I was frustrated and angered by this book. Truly I could describe this book as toxic more than anything else. Do we really have to tell the readers to solve their problems with drugs or push the responsibility to others as much as they want so they don't have to face their own feelings like shame, and grief? Does it really a proper way to cope with anything life throws at us? Because if you ask me it's some really serious toxic bullshit. And the main problem with the story is that it doesn't even want to solve this conflict. This book basically has zero sense, no intention to move from one square to another. 

Same with the characters. They have no goal. They are criminally demotivated, most of them just go where the tide of the events brings them. And without proper thoughts they are incapable of development. And one more frustrating thing. There are good characters in this story but most of them get killed off. The remaining characters are either unnecessary or utterly annoying. 

Unfortunately our main character is the most irritating out of them all. Rin is nothing much than an egoistic bitch and she thinks she is larger than life. She always wants others to solve her problems, she gets angry when they don't present her the solution on a silver platter. Meanwhile she can't lift her pinky finger to get her original powers back. I'm sorry but I hate that girl so much.

Honestly I think Nezha is the only loveable character here and the author just made him a real asshole at the end of the story. Great job, Kuang. Oh wait...

All things considered, I will finish the trilogy only because I want to know what happens to Nezha. But I will be honest. I can't reccomend this book. It feels like wasting precious time. There are so many better books which deserves your attention more than this.
